Spread & Solo & Various
Spread was first mentioned by name
in an article in 1997.
It started off as a kind of side project for Chad Smith and Dave. They wrote and recorded songs in the spare time they had while the Red Hot Chili Peppers did not tour, record or anything else due to several motorcycle accidents by the band, that included Anthony Kiedi's and Chad Smiths'.
Dave played all the instruments, except the drum part which was played by Chad. There were also some guest musicians and background singers, such as Aimee Echo (Hero, Human Waste Project, the Start - more on Aimee can be found here).
The songs were recorded at Dave's own "Blue Light" studio. "I used to have a home studio, then Dave Navarro and myself, we started working ... and I took all the gear to his house. IT'S STILL THERE", said Chad. Chad is no longer involved in the band.
In 2000 - Spread was mainly Dave himself.
Most songs deal with Dave's unresolved mother- and girlfriend issues, and sound different from all songs he has written before. Some of the songs were also on his never officially released Rhimorse CD.
But Spread was not only meant to be a name for his new project: it was to be his own personal multimedia empire. Spread Entertainment Inc. was meant to consist of Spread (the band), Spread Online, the Spread Label for new bands and his Lou Reed project (which now has been cancelled), and publishing, including his own book Don't Try This At Home. The release date for his album has been repeatedly postponed, by Dave and by the record companies involved. On 24 April, 2001, Capitol Records President & CEO, Andrew Slater, announced that Dave has signed an exclusive recording contract with Capitol. Finally the album was released under "Dave Navarro - Trust No One" on 19 June, 2001 in the US (Release date for Japan: 27 June, 2001 - this cd includes the bonus tracks "The Bed" and "Somebody Else". Release date for Germany: 2 July, 2001).
In addition to his music career,
which included him playing bass for his former girlfriends
Monet Mazur in her band Nancy Raygun in 1999,
Dave has been writing for magazines as Bikini (w/ his cousin
Johnny Navarro), Raygun, Details,
Nylon and US Weekly.
Dave has already performed in various TV Show, including Late Night with Conan O'Brien's and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno with his newly formed band, with the following line up: Bass - Miiko. Guitar - Angel and Drums - Dave Kushner. He kicked off for his first solo tour in fall 2001. Shows like Fast Forward, MTV and 2Rock had special features on him regarding his solo debut.
2004 became a very busy year for Dave.
On January 21, 2004 "Till Death Do
Us Part", the MTV mini-series documenting Dave and Carmen Electra's wedding
preparations and ceremony, premiered in the USA. Dave
and Carmen's wedding itself took place on November 22, 2003, at the St.
Regis Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.
MTV will release a special edition
DVD of this series on January 11, 2005.

His photo book Don't Try This At Home was scheduled for release in July 2001, but this release date has been pushed back again. Finally, the long awaited book was published on October 5, 2004, by Regan Books. Dave did a few book signing dates in the NYC and LA areas. The book shows its readers what Dave had been thru during that year, as well photos of innumerable people he sent into his now-notorious photobooth.
He mad the split of Jane's Addiction public and announced his new band The Panic Channel.
